A magical place exists a small step away from dull reality...
Glen Eden has always had a magical quality, with plenty of
space and several special spots to relax and unwind. One
spot that has always been cool, sheltered and relaxing is
the "Glades". Originally referred to as at the "top of the
dam", it has now been successfully protected from the dozen
or so cattle that wander the property. The natural vegetation
has been enriched with more plantings of native shrubs and
trees. Within this area, one spot has been colonised by some
fairies and elves.
To welcome the fairies to Glen Eden a special ceremony was
arranged. Several naturist fairies, elves, imps and leprechauns
came to the ceremony. Bob, playing Waltzing Matilda on the
tin whistle piped the entourage to the Glades. Bob is a man
of many talents. When the word went around "can anyone play
Waltzing Matilda on the tin whistle ?" He replied "I can
give it a go" He certainly did.
Jackie gave a welcoming speech, thanking all, who over the
years, have contributed to the development of the Glades.
She encouraged everyone present to use their imagination to
see the potential of the spot. Over the next few years several
trees will give extra colour to the area. She then asked Murray,
king of the fairies, to officially declare the garden open.
So with ribbons cut and glasses clinking, everyone cheered.
You may remember Murray from the photographs in a previous
Sun & Health. Murray started his fairy career at the opening
gathering at Be Beah Lodge in Hervey Bay, and his career has
just taken off. He was looking wonderful in his size 10 RM
Williams boots. Always professional, always dedicated, always
looking good, Murray is guaranteed to put silliness and fun
into any gathering (just don't beat him at petangue).
The Glades is the location of the pitch and putt course.
There are spots for those who wish to camp without power,
and benches to sit and while away the time. I would like it
to be a place of rest and meditation. With two natural pools
and a natural catchment area for rain it has the basic
requirements for a pleasant garden, now well protected by
the fairies
The camp site is located in the house paddock. Over the
years we have seen gradual improvement in the gardens with
several shade tress now doing what is expected of them ie
give shade. Old spiky has lots of bright pink with yellowy
orange blooms in February. The roses are constantly budding,
especially the orange rose which I had planted in memory of
my dad. At last the slopes around the croquet court have
begun to look like a garden! We continue to use the survival
of the fittest method we plant we water for a while then the
plants are on their own .It does make for a garden of survival,
but there are a few plant deaths on the way.

So you have been wondering why this web page is infrequently
updated. Well we all know the blank computer screen and blank
brain is a bad starting point. Anyone who visits knows that
Jim is getting mangoes to grow and Jackie is happier in the
garden.
